X-wing & Quad

Postby apatt » Sat Aug 27, 2005 12:59 am

Hi!

Found this puzzle which involves both an X-wing and a quad. I don't know whether it is possible to solve without resorting to these two techniques. Any way, I thought I'd post it here as it's a good one. Took me one hour to solve:

*-----------*
|..6|...|...|
|.5.|..1|...|
|73.|.8.|1..|
|---+---+---|
|...|2..|.79|
|.4.|.5.|.2.|
|98.|..4|...|
|---+---+---|
|..4|.6.|.97|
|...|4..|.3.|
|...|...|8..|
*-----------*

It doesn't need anything more complex than locked candidates.

(Took me under four minutes using Simple Sudoku, with no hints and no errors:D .)

Agreed angus, nothing complex required, but probably because of where they were located I actually did see a naked quad at a very early stage (or hidden pair, somehow I find it easier to spot naked's rather than hidden's).

Certainly did not need anything like an x-wing.

Well, it was nice to be able to apply the X-wing. I tend to use Angus' Simple Sudoku to solve Fiendish or "diabolical" levels so I don't have to wade through the forests of candidates. Otherwise I tend to use paper & pencil, it has some kind of old world charm:D
