I've seen swordfish and x-wing mentioned many times, but I don't know what they are.

Could someone post a link for the explanation:?:

Angus J and SadMan Software both give great explanations and examples of these techniques and others.

Check out the thread titled "It is with much regret..." it will help with x-wings.

On page 3 tso posted an example that makes it a bit clear. The example that started the thread (which can be found restated with my post on page 3) helps to see a more complex looking x-wing.

Between the explanations of Shazbot (that you have already seen), em, and tso you should grasp x-wings very quickly.
