Don't know what it's called other than a chain; the trivalue cell means it can't be an XY-Chain. Same eliminations as Leren's Purple Cow without the colorful terminology.

Marty, I think your move can be described as an ALS XY Wing where the pincer cells are r6c2 and r9c3
common digit 7 (as in my move) but your "base cell" is a 4 cell ALS r5678c1. The 3 in r8c1 is weakly linked to the 3 in r9c3 and the 8s in r56c1
are weakly linked to the 8 in r6c2 to establish the XY Wing.

The Purple Cow variation only ever uses 3 cells to establish 2 Weak links to the XY Wing pincer cells and can reduce the complexity of the move.
For example, in the AU Tough for December 3 thread there was a 6 cell ALS XY Wing move, which could be replaced by an equivalent 3 cell Purple Cow XY Wing move.

Thanks for that explanation. I've seen the ALS XY-Wing used a lot but had no idea what it was.
