Just joined. I am trying to understand the Xwing, Filet-of-fish etc advanced solving techniques. Is there any way to obtain a textual description of the techniques?

You can find some good descriptions at Sudopedia. Most techniques have also been thoroughly discussed on these forums, links to discussions on most techniques (and many other good solving guides) can be found here.
