Two solutions ?

Postby Putter Man » Wed Sep 14, 2005 4:42 am

While I was solving a rather simple puzzle I noticed that it could have
two solutions. The solutions are almost identical, but still there are two.

Original:

8xx | 9x3 | x7x
5xx | 4xx | xxx
x64 | 2xx | 1xx

xxx | 81x | 32x
xxx | x5x | xx8
xx7 | xx4 | 9xx

12x | xxx | xxx
x3x | xxx | 846
xx9 | xxx | x5x

Solved:

812 | 963 | 574
593 | 471 | 682
764 | 285 | 193 < Swap the 3 and 9 here...

456 | 819 | 327
291 | 357 | 468
387 | 624 | 915

128 | 546 | 739 < and here.
735 | 192 | 846
649 | 738 | 251

It works either way. I thought there could be only one solution.
Have I missed something ?

If you check the 2nd column of your answer you'll find 2 9's. So you better start again and be more careful. There is only 1 unique solution.
