Two Eliminations Using Single-Digit Technique ?

Postby daj95376 » Sun Nov 19, 2006 10:45 pm

In the puzzle below, there are two eliminations in <6> that I can obtain through two sdICs. Is there a way to eliminate them in the same operation using just the single-digit <6>? In particular, is there a fish that performs both eliminations?

Code: Select all
..42.78...7..4..5.3..5.9..41.....9...9.....6...5.....85..8.3..9.3..7..8...84.17..

# [r3c7]-6-[r8c7] | [r3c7]=6=[r3c5]-6-[r79c5]=6=[r8c46]-6-[r8c7]
# [r4c3]-6-[r4c5] | [r4c3]=6=[r8c3]-6-[r8c46]=6=[r79c5]-6-[r4c5]
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*
 | 6      5      4      | 2      13     7      | 8      9      13     |

Don't know about fishes, but the same empty rectangle in box 8 causes both eliminations using two different strong links.

Thanks RW. I'm in the process of updating my solver and don't have Empty Rectangles in the current solver. On top of that, I've read about ERs but can't spot them at all.

At the risk of having more egg on my face, I'll ask about the following puzzle. My solver didn't find anything easy about it. Did it miss something other than a Naked Single, complex eliminations on <46>, and chains?

Code: Select all
 *-----------*
 |3..|8.7|2.1|
 |.9.|.4.|...|
 |..7|..5|..8|
 |---+---+---|
 |7..|...|...|
 |21.|...|.37|
 |...|...|..9|
 |---+---+---|
 |5..|3..|8..|
 |...|.6.|.1.|
 |9.1|5.2|..3|
*-----------* # I believe this is my first puzzle with a hole in the center
