Trying to learn jargon

Postby QBasicMac » Tue Oct 25, 2005 7:40 pm

To do so, I did a write-up of my own which I plan to give to some friends.

Any comments?

a) I think you've got it now!

b) You missed a relatively easy one: ....

c) You goofed, a swordfish is .....

etc.

Thanks - Mac

Have a look here:

http://vanhegan.net/sudoku/dictionary.php

If you're interested in sudoku terminology. I'm still building the database, so any input is invaluable!

Damn network54! There is some intermittent problem. It works for me. Others have complained and experimented and found this works for network54 links:

a) Copy the URL

b) Get out of IE or whatever and restart it.

c) Enter the URL on the Address line and press enter.

Try that (independent of my SuDoku request - just trying to verify that stupid link. I'll complain to network54 again)

ROFL! Not exactly - I still think a puzzled newbie needs explicit help, not vague jargon-laden hints. But I am tired of being a newbie, so I decided to break down and learn some stuff so I don't have to get into flame wars with people trying to help me.

Sorry Mac - that doesn't work either! All I can see is a blank page - unless it's white text!:) Hope you get it fixed.

Thanks

At least YOUR link works!:(:(:(

You seem to have MANY more terms that I can cope with at present, but when I am more confident, I will give it a look.

If you come across a term you don't know, it's better to refer to my dictionary, rather than reading through the whole thing in one go. Some of the terminology is quite specific to the Sudoku programmers forum. If there's anything that's confusing or unclear, please let me know, so I can improve the quality of the dictionary.

Mac, the above link seems to work for me.

Although I've only glanced through it Mac, you could do with tidying up the right side. I have to use the bottom scroll bar to see it all, which makes it a bit fiddly to read through.

Not sure if Gaby will use 'weakies' in her dictionary though.

Weakies, perhaps not:) That link works fine in Firefox, but not in Safari. Quite odd.

And it's *his* not her dictionary...

Thanks for the info.

Say, folks, lets shut this thread down. I will start over with a new thread whenever (or if) I can solve the download problem. That is not a SuDoku issue.

Thanks, everyone, for trying!
