Looking at box 6 ( the middle right box) , the only place for a 1 to go is in the middle column. Therefore, a 1 cannot go in the middle column in box 9 (lower right box). That means that the middle square in box 9 is a 7 since it cannot be a 1. Hope this helps.

Hi crystal759,
Here's a couple of hints to get you further. Firstly, if you're not familiar with the commonly used terms then click here . Look at Box6 (that's the middle right 3X3 grid) where candidate 1 appears only within this Box in cells r5c8 and r6c8. Since one of these two cells must contain that specific candidate - it doesn't matter yet which one - then other candidate 1's in that same column can be excluded from outside this Box6. This removes candidate 1 from cell r7c8. From this exclusion only one cell is left in row 7 that can contain the digit.1 This is known as a "hidden" single. As you now have digit 1's placed in Boxes 1 and 7 you can now place digit 1 within Box 4.

Further hints and techniques for solving are described by clicking here and here. Make sure you fully understand the "basic" techniques such as "naked" and "hidden" pairs, triplets, Locked Candidates(1) and (2) before you venture to the more advanced techniques such as X-Wings, swordfish, etc.

Seeing it's Xmas this should be enough homework and good luck with your Sudoku.
