Can anyone offer a source for tips or general guidelines for solving Sudoku puzzles? I get the "easy" level puzzles but am often thwarted by more difficult ones.

you could try the guide published by angusj

and whenever a puzzle thwarts you,
just post it here and someone will suggest the next step
