Times Su Doku Board Game Competition

Postby afjt » Tue Oct 11, 2005 10:54 am

In today's T2, there is a competition to win a copy of the new Su Doku board game, by completing the Killer on the back page. It's a pity they didn't choose a day when the Killer wasn't so easy !
I'm intrigued how someone has managed to create a board game from sudoku though ! The description says it comes with 100 puzzles in 4 degrees of difficulty, so it doesn't look like it will be something which would occupy any of us for too long !

I looked at a sudoku board game in a shop (don't know if it was this one), and the rules were essentially that each player takes it in turns, having 30 seconds to put as many numbers on the board (in their colour) as they can. Then whoever has the most (correct) numbers of their colour on the board when it's completed, wins.

Now that's a game I'd like to play!

But does that mean that if you cock-up then all who follow are "infected" as well, or can you correct an obvious error by an opponent?.

It sounds like tactics could come into play here - if you are leading, then deliberately place a wrong number to block the board ! Or maybe do so just as your 30 seconds are up.

I would like to see a game where blocking was actually a part of the tactics...

amazed The Times did not fill in all the numbers as they made it very easy and it was not exactly a difficult killer either.

not particularly keen on the introduction of grid lines within each 3x3 block - much preferred the initial version
