Times Killer #22 (29/9/05)

Again, much more satisfying today. Less maths, more sudoku techniques. Took about 25 minutes. When are we going to see a difficult or fiendish?

I agree...it just took one key number very early on for it to open up to me just like you said.

Second day in a row and the buggers're laughing at me. Got three numbers and ground to a halt. Not my fault, head clogged with snot.

You're not the only one - and I don't even have an excuse!
I can do normal Su dokus but this one I can't get my head around.

Where do I start?

Hmmph - you're doing better than me then. I've only got the two easy numbers in so far (at r3c3 and r7c7) plus the obvious candidates and I haven't even got the excuse of a nasty cold. Am supposed to be working from home (son poorly and off school) but keep looking at the puzzle hoping to see the key number which will apparently open it all up! Might be back asking for a hint later:!:

I assume you have the numbers at r3c3, r4c4 & r7c7?

the on that opened it all up for me was getting r8c7 after I had candidates in place.

Perhaps I should stick to doing crosswords.

2 mentions so far of r3c3 & r7c7 - I can't see how these numbers can be put in place - I must be missing something but I don't know what (apart from my brain...).

Doh:!: Have now got r4c4 - sure had a blind spot there. Haven't got any further yet though and still not getting much work done.

It took me several minutes to spot r8c7 before things started working for me. This was the 4th number I put in place

Help - somebody give me a clue for r8c7. I've got possibilities of 4568 but can't work it out

using the options for r9c2,3,&4 plus something about the groups at r8c5&6 and r8c8&9 plus column 4 all combine to help you...this make sense?

Before I put pen to paper (should probably use pencil so I can rub it out!) - am I right in thinking I can eliminate 4 and 5 as candidates from the 9 cage (r8c7 and r9c7) because the 7 cage has to be 2+5 or 3+4 - either option would rule out 4 and 5 in the 9 cage. Seems logical but just checking as brain seems to be on a go slow today. Still left with 6 or 8 in r8c7 though (with corresponding 3 or 1 in r9c7).
