Any hints on what is next here?
I've spent a lot of time on this and I am royally stuck.

Thanks

Code: Select all
 *-----------*
 |.5.|86.|..1|
 |.4.|3..|5..|
 |.2.|5.7|.8.|
 |---+---+---|
 |..2|1.6|..9|
 |..1|93.|2..|
 |5..|4..|1..|
 |---+---+---|
 |.8.|6.3|712|
 |..7|2.8|94.|
 |2..|79.|.3.|
 *-----------*

This puzzle may be solved with singles only, which should be possible without pencilmarks. For starters, consider the possibilites for r5c6 (row 5 column 6) and then r6c6.

Thanks so much for that hint. I do see it now. But tell me, how did you manage to see my graphic if it didn't appear in the body of my original posting the way I thought it would? I tried placing it with Skitch which usually works fine for posting graphics in other forums but it didn't seem to do the trick here so I'm puzzled that you somehow accessed the graphic.

Thanks

hi ttibsen

it is much better to post the puzzle as text
(e.g. the way ronk did)
    to get the image displayed,
    write it like this --

Golly I don't know about that - it seems it would take hours to get the borders and dividing lines simulated on the keyboard. The Skitch way, I just scan the darn thing and put it on Skitch for all to see. You'd have to be a masochist to reproduce the puzzle on the keyboard.

There are good reasons not to post with images, but a taste for suffering is not high among them:) .

The grids posted here are not prepared by hand, but rather utilizing text editors and software.

Click on How to ask for help for starters.

Alternately, download a program like Simple Sudoku. Input your grid. Copy it. Once in the forum, hit the Code tag, paste the grid, and hit the Code tag again. Your puzzle will appear perfectly formatted and no bruises will show.

There are many other great programs from which to choose ranging in price from free all the way up to gratis. You can also ask such programs for hints or even complete solution paths. G'luck.
