The Times 8th April Fiendish

Postby mullarted » Fri Apr 08, 2005 6:30 pm

Hi All,

I am utterly stuck on today's Fiendish. I've spent the entire journey to work and back (2 hrs) on this and have really got nowhere!

*** | *38 | **9
*95 | 6** | *3*
**3 | *1* | **6
------------------
*32 | 4** | 1*5
*** | **1 | ***
614 | **2 | 9**
------------------
3** | 89* | ***
*8* | **3 | 79*
*** | 12* | ***

Any pointers very welcome!

Look at column 3, there is only one place to put the 8

And when you are done with that you should look at the 9's

Done, thanks. It seemed pretty straight forward after that. I think I'd just been staring at it too long!

Might be being a bit slow but I am here....

*6* | 238 | **9
*95 | 674 | *3*
**3 | 915 | **6

732 | 489 | 165
958 | *61 | ***
614 | *52 | 9**

3** | 89* | ***
*86 | 543 | 79*
5*9 | 12* | ***

Thankfully this is missing the pencilmarks.

I've spent quite some time seeing that one too...

Here is a hint:

Write down where the 7 can go in box 3,

look at row 6 (or box 6) and write down what number can go where...

if you do that you should find something special

and when you found that you should take a closer look at the last row

Thank you animator. I was stuck at the same point as Ali97. Great to have this forum available. Cheers Poppadum!
