In more-or-less every case, Superior is more difficult. (Last Sunday, the Superior in the Sunday Times was an exception and could be solved easily.) Superiors will generally require either using x-wings or triples in order to solve, whereas Fiendish will only require doubles. I understand that the superiors are one of most difficult puzzles to appear in any newspaper.

The Superiors are generated by the Pappacom software at the Very Hard level whereas the Fiendish are generated using the Hard level.
