Super Sudoku 12x12 17th July

Postby alvarez » Sun Jul 17, 2005 4:45 pm

First of all, apologies if this should be in another forum..

Today's (17th July) Super Sudoku 12x12 is posing me some problems. It's the first 12x12 i've attempted, I only discovered Sudoku 2 days ago and found 6x6 and 9x9's fairly easy but this one has me stumped.

So far I have: (my diagram's a bit wonky, sorry!)

Code: Select all
2 10 7 12 | 6 1  5 3  | 8 4 11 9
* 8 * 11  | * *  10 *| 6 7 5 1
1 9 6  5  | 4 7 11 8 | 2 12 3 10
----------------------------------
10 * * 8  | 1 5 7 *  | * *  4 3
7 * *  4  | * * 12 * | 5 * * *
* 5 11 *  | 8 6 3  4 | 7 10 * 2
----------------------------------
8 * 9 2   | * 4 1 7 | * * 6 *
* * * 10  | *11 2 * | * 9 7 8
11 7 * *  |* * 8 12 | * 2 * 4
----------------------------------
* 4 8 *   | * * 6 *  | * 1 2 7
* 2 1  *  | 7 8 4 *  | 11 * * *
5 11 10 7 | 2 * 9 1  | 4 * * 6

Any ideas how I can progress, what i've missed, or possibly where i've gone wrong?

Many thanks for any help.:)

There are two 1's in the bottom left box so guess you've messed up somewhere.

This has come from the Mail on Sunday.

Did it last night, it took some time, had to use pencil marks in the end.
Sorry, have thrown it away.

Besides the two 1's in box 10 there is two 1's on line 12.

Remember each line,column and box has to have the numbers 1-12.

Oops yes Mail on Sunday.. (didn't look at the Newspaper title as it was just handed to me open!)

And I typed the number in box 10 wrong, it's a 7 not a 1. I have edited my original post..

..any guidance?

Start off with putting a 6 in box 8 across and 8 down. I use (X,Y) so
(8,8) is 6, (4,9) is 6, (4,6) is 1, (1,11) is 6,(1,10) is 12,(1,6) is 9,(2,8) is 1,
(11,6) is 12,(12,5) is 11,(9,4) is 9, (11,5) is 1,(10,4) is 6,(10,5) is 8,
(2,5) is 6,(8,4) is 11,(3,4) is 2,(3,5) is 3,(2,4) is 12,(3,2) is 4,(1,2) is 3,
(1,8) is 4,(2,7) is 3,(3,9) is ,(3,8) is 12,(5,8) is 5,(9,8) is 3,(10,12) is 3,
(11,12) is 8,(6,12) is 12,(5,2) is 12,(4,11) is 3,(4,10) is 9,(11,11) is 9,
(11,9) is 10,(5,7) is 10,(5,5) is 9,(5,10) is 11,(5,9) is 3,(6,9) is 9,
(6,2) is 2,(8,2) is 9,(6,5) is 10,(8,5) is 2,(6,10) is 3,(8,10) is 5,
(8,11) is 10,(9,10) is 10,(12,11) is 5,(9,11) is 12,(9,9) is 1,(10,7) is 5,(9,7) is 11,(12,7) is 12

You can follow this to as must as you like to help you. This is the order I filled in the grid to get to the full solution.

I hope this helps you,
Regards,
Kingsley
