Hello everyone,

As a newbie to this forum I was wondering how I could show you a puzzle that I'm stuck on. Is there some way to paste a small jpg showing canditates etc?[/img]

Simple Sudoku allows you to copy the clues and candidates to the clipboard which you can paste here. Or you can add a link to an online image, or simply type in the text.

Easiest format for others to read (and load into their solvers) is to insert into a Code block - something like this:
Code: Select all
 *-----------*
 |...|..3|...|
 |3..|.28|75.|
 |...|.7.|.86|
 |---+---+---|
 |6..|.3.|9..|
 |..4|...|6..|
 |..7|.5.|..2|
 |---+---+---|
 |46.|.9.|...|
 |.85|26.|..3|
 |...|1..|...|
 *-----------*

 *-----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 | 125789  124579  12689  | 4569    14    3     | 124     1249    149    |
 | 3       149     169    | 469     2     8     | 7       5       149    |
 | 1259    12459   129    | 459     7     1459  | 1234    8       6      |
 |------------------------+---------------------+------------------------|
 | 6       125     128    | 478     3     1247  | 9       147     14578  |
 | 12589   12359   4      | 789     18    1279  | 6       137     1578   |
 | 189     139     7      | 4689    5     1469  | 1348    134     2      |
 |------------------------+---------------------+------------------------|
 | 4       6       123    | 3578    9     57    | 1258    127     1578   |
 | 179     8       5      | 2       6     47    | 14      1479    3      |
 | 279     2379    239    | 1       48    457   | 2458    24679   45789  |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Showing candidates as well (if you're using a program) allows us to see if you've already made any eliminations, so we won't suggest something you've already done.

Once the code block is open you don't have to know any code, just type the puzzle out using | if possible to seperate the mini grids

ok - in column 9, candidate 1s are locked to box 9, so 1 can be removed from all other cells in box 9, leaving you with a naked single. It's easy after that.

If you're typing a grid yourself and want columns to be aligned, it usually doesn't make sense to waste time typing it into the posting window (which doesn't show the alignment). Instead, type it into an editor or word processor in a fixed-width font (e.g. Courier New) -- that way what you see is what you will get after you copy/paste it into the posting window, sandwich it between Code tags, then post it.
