haven't had too many problems with the "puzzle' until now - but i'm stuck - found a programme to help but can't understand the first clue which is "place 4 in R5, C9" - with plenty of other options for a 4 in other rows, columns & boxes is anyone able to tell me why R5, C9 is the logical choice? the "help" programme is "SudokuLite"

Are you sure the program is giving the next logical step as a hint, and not just another number to help you along?

Anyway, you can place a 4 now, but not there. Look at where the 2 and 6 can go in row 5 (to do this properly, make sure to look at where the 2 can go in box 2 first), and from that, find the 4's position in column 1. I used http://sudoku.sourceforge.net for this.
