stuck - plz help!

Postby Guest » Sun May 15, 2005 8:51 am

this is a 'hard' puzzle from the sudoku program. the green numbers are the initial ones. i've filled in some easy black ones and got stuck. i asked the computer for a hint and it tells me i should be able to place a '6' in the blue box. can anyone give me the logic please!

IMHO, this seems a poor hint - it's two steps to get there. A better hint would be that you can place a 4 in R9C4, and this then leads to the 6 in R9C1.

The reasoning for the placement of the 4 involves the 8s in block 9.

Hello tek. Hints are random. They are not derived logically. When you take a hint, you take a gamble as to whether it will help you or not.

This (and more) is explained in the Help Topics. Bring up the Help window and go to the Index, then go to "Hints" and select the sub-item (also called) "Hints"... and you could look in the other sub-items as well. Hope that helps.
