I'm not sure if it's worth putting my progress because I was unable to get very far. What technique do I need to use?

thanks

Lagvoid,

Actually, it would be useful to see your progress.

The hardest techniques I used to solve it were locked candidates and a naked triple. Here is your original grid and the pencilmark grid after filling in a few singles. Look at the 8's in box 5.

Code: Select all
 *-----------*
 |..8|..1|4.7|
 |.1.|6..|...|
 |9..|...|..3|
 |---+---+---|
 |..2|.5.|...|
 |.5.|167|.2.|
 |...|.4.|7..|
 |---+---+---|
 |8..|...|..2|
 |...|..2|.3.|
 |3.6|8..|5..|
 *-----------*

 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*

This was where I got stuck. Thank you for taking the time to look at this puzzle.

lagvoid, you've made a mistake in assuming r7c4=5... In box 8 both r7c4 and r8c4 can be 5, and you cannot make the decision yet...

Anyway, the key move for this puzzle is a naked triple of {457} on r3, which will crack the grid into singles...

wapati, what was a "phish"?

Ah, "naked triple" worked! Thanks again for the help. I overlooked these before. Relief...
