Solving without Computer Assistance

Postby AnotherLife » Sat Aug 14, 2021 12:53 pm

Hello,
I have not posted anything for a long time but now I want to offer you a puzzle from sudoku.com.
1. Could someone try to solve this sudoku without automatic pencil marks and one-digit filters?
2. Does this puzzle have a single-step solution?
Code: Select all
4.7..8..3.............9.52...873...2.6.......1..6.........2.4.5.4.8.1.7...6....8.

i'll answer part 2 for you, there is a (relatively) simple single step solution

Code: Select all
.-----------------------.-------------------.---------------------.
| 4       1259    7     | 125   #156  8     |#169   #169   3      |
| 235689  123589  12359 | 12345  47   23567 | 16789  1469 #146789 |
| 368     138     13    | 134    9    367   | 5      2    #14678  |
:-----------------------+-------------------+---------------------:
| 59      59      8     | 7      3    4     | 16     16    2      |
| 237     6       234   | 1259   158  259   | 3789   3459  4789   |
| 1       237     234   | 6      58   259   | 3789   3459  4789   |
:-----------------------+-------------------+---------------------:
| 3789    13789   139   | 39     2    3679  | 4      1369  5      |
| 2359    4       2359  | 8      5-6  1     | 2369   7    #69     |
| 23579   123579  6     | 3459   47   3579  | 1239   8     19     |
'-----------------------'-------------------'---------------------'

grouped 2-string kite
6r1c5 = 6r1c78 - 6r23c9 = 6r8c9 => -6r8c5

You end up with the basic steps but I was asking about a finish with only singles.

I have lost the connection with the forum. It seems that nobody missed me during last three months when I had no access to the Internet, and now my posts look weird to everyone. I am going to delete this thread.

I do not see a reason to post anything that nobody is interested in. I will say once more that I have not ignored the forum recently but have not had a technical possibility to reach it.

No reason to think, that nobody is interested.
However, seeing shye's solution spoiled the fun for trying to solve it without pencilmarks - and there seems to be no nice one step solution.
So - give us the next one.

Let me express my opinion about this puzzle. I think it is hard for solving 'on paper' because there are no singles at the initial stage, and the solver will have to fill in up to six candidates in the cells. Moreover, such patterns as Sashimi x-wing, Finned swordfish and Grouped 2-string kite are pretty hard to spot without highlighting the digits. It is a pity that nobody has tried to solve this puzzle without computer assistance. Sometimes we should try to survive in wild nature and test ourselves.

I consider myself to be a beginner. I come and go, often taking weeks and even months between visits.

Unless I post a problem I'm stuck on, or ask a specific question, I don't expect too many posts on any particular thread I started.

It's not because people are ignoring me. It's just that there's nothing in whatever thread that needs a reply.
