Yes, it's still there in version 3 (hot off the press). It might take me a day or two to get around to fixing that one - it looks like the hint/solver doesn't like bad (incorrectly assigned) cells.

Thanks for the ongoing excellent feedback.

Finally, that's one terrific puzzle - lots of pretty colors to solve that one:) .

Another one for the wishlist, if I may...

Can we have an "Are you sure you want to quit?" option on exit? I've just closed the programme by mistake in the middle of a puzzle:(

Well done on your progress with this excellent piece of software! [Edited]

Just to add to the ongoing wishlist discussion...

    - The ability to print the pencilmarks would be good for those of us who sometimes like to do the puzzles offline. It would be a timesaver to have the marks preprinted.
    - Would it be better to have the 'degree of difficulty' as a sub menu of the 'Create New' function? That way we can explicitly select the difficulty as we create the puzzle.
    - Oh, yes ... and have the puzzle filename printed with the puzzle.

Apart from that, keep up the good work![/list]

I thought you must have been cooking up something fancy: things had stalled at version 2.1n for almost 4 days! ;)

You're very welcome. My own thanks go to you for listening to all my suggestions and making so many additions and/or fixes so quickly. I'm relieved roger888 and GazzaR have chimed in with their own feedback; I was starting to sound like a whiny child: "I want, I want, I want!"

Not completely fixed yet, but should no longer freeze.

Done.

Pretty much all done.

Currently version 3.0c

The filter function is very useful for quickly identifying singles however I don't understand why I need to use ctrl-Z to unfilter before I can make the cell a known number or exclude candidates.

Why can't I use the normal range of make/exclude options on the filtered data?
Unfiltering the data could be controlled by a new menu option or ctrl_U or by using ctrl_number as a toggle - press once to filter, press agin to unfilter.

I have found a small bug or, at the very most, a slight inconsistency. I discovered it when looking at these fine puzzles you had posted for Wolfgang. In particular, the second puzzle at this early point in the solution. I'm using version 3.0c.
Code: Select all
 . . . | 4 . . | . 8 7
 . 3 . | 1 . . | 5 . 6
 . 8 . | 5 9 . | 3 . 1
-------+-------+-------
 . . 4 | 8 . . | . 3 5
 . . 8 | . 4 . | . . .
 3 7 . | . . 5 | 8 . 4
-------+-------+-------
 8 6 7 | . 1 2 | 4 5 .
 1 . 3 | . . 4 | . 7 .
 9 4 . | . . . | . . .

When I press F11, the cells r4c5 and r6c5 are highlighted and the candidate 2's are removed from both. Then I click F7 and the status bar taunts me with "Did you really need a hint?!" However, both r4c5 and r6c5 are still highlighted in yellow. (Shouldn't r4c5 be un-highlighted at this point?) Interestingly, when I Alt + Tab away from the program window and back to it, only r6c5 is highlighted.

VERSION 3.6I

Postby roger888 » Fri Jul 29, 2005 3:48 pm

Hi angusj.

I've been happily using an earlier version for a few weeks, and missed a number of new updates. But I'm now on 3.6i, and I have to congratulate you again. Much simpler and more intuitive to use now you've detached filtering from Ctrl-Z and allowed 'normal' moves in a filtered window. Excellent.

One query: have you stiffened up the grade of the 'extreme' puzzles? In particular have you changed the approach to generalised swordfish? I seem to have to solve many more 4-column/4-row swordfish now, which I don't remeber from the previous version. Or is it just me?

3.6M

Whoops

It's up to 3.6m already. I suppose with this rapid a rate of update, it's unfair to expect a revision history too:D
