Simple Sudoku generated invalid in Pappocom

Postby jphamel » Sat Dec 31, 2005 2:09 am

This puzzle has been generated in Simple Sudoku on Extreme Level.

Just for curiosity, I dubbed it in Pappocom Software and was considered not forming a valid puzzle?

Is this normal behavior, or a bug or something in Pappocom

I'm not asking anyone to solve it, I did and it is a valid puzzle. I'm just curious to know if anyone has trid to rate puzzle generated by SS in the Pappocom software.

a puzzle considered invalid by Pappocom doesn't necessarily mean it can't be solved, but it may be that it can't be solved by the techniques used by that program. Simple Sudoku uses swordfish and colouring, but Pappocom does not, and I think both of those techniques are common in Extreme SS puzzles - if you had to use one of those methods to solve that puzzle, that's the reason.

I THINK anything BELOW extreme will be accepted by Pappocom.

Yes, I had to use coloring on the puzzle, thanks.

Personnaly I prefer solving in Simple Soduku, because you can use colors, that makes it easier to find swordfish, x-wing, etc. I would like an option to disable the autoupdate of the candidates, it would be more natural, like when using paper.

yeah - I'd like that too - I don't mind it removing the candidates based on a placement, though an option to toggle that on/off would be nice. But it almost feels like cheating when it highlights the naked singles for you!

I like that in Pappocom you have to do all that yourself, but I like in Simple Sudoku that you can turn candidates on/off without having to go and enter them all yourself, that it gives you a logical hint (Pappocom just fills in a number which may or may not be the next logical step) and explains how it got there, and that you can highlight cells with particular candidates. Oh, and colouring too:)
