So a few of us have been doing this Sudoku for a while and we all have stopped at the same point and can’t continue.
I’m looking for the answer (as it’s in the back of the book), I’m wondering if at this strange I just need to make a guess which route to take? Or is there always a stretegic way?

Yasdean, guessing is usually the technique of last resort.

Consider, reading up on some solving techniques, I've found http://www.sudokuwiki.org/ a good source of information about Sudoku.

Alternatively, consider using a (software) sudoku solver, like HoDoku (http://hodoku.sourceforge.net/);
or an online solver like Andrew Stuart's Solver @ http://www.sudokuwiki.org/sudoku.htm.

The solvers allow you to enter the puzzle you are trying to solve and then see the "next move"...
