(139)r4c153 = (9,1)b4p613 => -1 r4c9,r5c3; stte

or WXYZ-Wing:

(139)r4c153 = (231)b4p351 => -1 r4c9,r5c3; stte

Just for learning purpose without any objection. I never see such WXYZ-Wing move before.

The only WXYZ-Wing move found by my solver, not otp, (also found by Andrew's solver) is as follows:
Code: Select all
6.5..3....7.8.....2....91...5.....7.........54.6...9....3..16.....5....9....7..18
 +----------------+---------------+-------------------+
 | 6     9   5    | 24   1    3   | 7      8    (24)  |
 | (13)  7   (14) | 8    246  5   | (234)  9    236-4 |
 | 2     34  8    | 7    46   9   | 1      5    346   |
 +----------------+---------------+-------------------+
 | 13    5   129  | 6    39   248 | 248    7    124   |
 | 7     23  129  | 124  39   248 | 248    6    5     |
 | 4     8   6    | 12   5    7   | 9      23   123   |
 +----------------+---------------+-------------------+
 | 5     24  3    | 9    8    1   | 6      24   7     |
 | 8     1   7    | 5    24   6   | 23     234  9     |
 | 9     6   24   | 3    7    24  | 5      1    8     |
 +----------------+---------------+-------------------+
WXYZ-Wing: 1234 @ r2c137 r1c9 => -4 @ r2c9

As per my understanding, your WXYZ-Wing move contain two apexes/pivots, r4c13, and two wings/pincers, r4c5 and r5c3. Unable to find any non-restricted common digit (in wings). Maybe not but I think so, yours move looks like some kind of ALS move.

You're right that it's a bit different from the norm, and I probably should have mentioned that. Maybe it shouldn't be called WXYZ-Wing at all, I don't know (not sure of the exact definition). Like a normal WXYZ-Wing, it has four cells and four digits, and can be written as an ALS-Z move (like I did) or an ALS-XZ. What makes it different is the overlap of the two ALSs. As an ALS-XZ (X=2, Z=1) the overlap cell is r4c1:

(139=2)r4c153 - (2=31)b4p51 => -1 r4c9,r5c3

If we don't let the overlap bother us, it works pretty much like a WXYZ-Wing, I think, if we use r4c3 as the pivot:

Code: Select all
(1)r4c3
||
(2)r4c3 - (2=3)r5c2 - (3=1)r4c1
||
(9)r4c3 - (9=3)r4c5 - (3=1)r4c1

=> -1 r4c9,r5c3

Other ways to see the same thing:

(1=3)r4c1 - (3=29)r5c2,r4c5 - (2|9=1)r4c3 => -1 r4c9,r5c3

Almost Y-Wing:

(1)r4c3 = [(3=2)r5c2 - (2=9)r4c3 - (9=3)r4c5] - (3=1)r4c1 => -1 r4c9,r5c3

Bottom line: I won't protest if its WXYZ-Wing status is revoked. It's something very close to it anyway, but perhaps different enough. I realized it when I wrote it, and wondered if you'd say something. You did! :) I think I'm going to trust your judgment on this.
