in the early days of our Forum,
we didn't have a separate section for "Off Topic"
somehow we managed to inject off-topic chatter just anywhere --
which i still tend to do
- where the off-topic posts can actually be separated,
a Moderator might take the trouble to split the Topic
where they cannot be separated,
a strict Moderator might choose to delete the off-topic posts
to leave a strictly-on-topic discussion
