Since it appears that your puzzle had 180 degree rotational symmetry, my best guess is that you've left out a digit from one of the two cells marked with an asterisk. In the original puzzles, at least on of these two cells was filled with a 3 or a 9. Check your source or take your pick.

Would you please post the original puzzle prior to placements?

Thanks

My first posting is the original puzzle, though only 1/5th of it.

This puzzle is one part of a larger five part samurai type sudoku. Below is the puzzle with the middle sudoku in place.

Code: Select all

                            *-------------------------------------------*
                            | 1   35   23  |  238  7 4   |  9   53   6  |
                            | 4   37   9   |  1236 5 136 |  8   137  27 |
                            | 358 6    237 |  1238 9 138 |  157 4    257 |
                            |--------------+-------------+--------------|
                            | 38  1378 367 |  4   16 5   |  37  2    9  |
                            | 2   57   4   |  89  3  89  |  6   57   1  |

Thanks. That answers my question, namely it says we are not speaking of a stand-alone 9x9 Sudoku puzzle; hence it is unsolvable and can be safely ignored.

The whole complex may have a solution, but who cares? Not me. I am only interested in ....

My candidates (and my two solutions) include an 8 in r1c2. A 3 in r1c3 cracks the puzzle at least as far as it can be cracked.
