program to show candidates vs. pencil & paper

I just now discovered the program that shows the available candidates and allows you tomexclude. This seems to me to be a TOTALLY dfferent way of solving theses puzzles. Is this standard? I have been using pencil and paper and struggling with hards, becasue I couldn't see the wings and triples, etc. Seems too easy.

Consider it a different challenge.

The puzzles set in newspapers are generally very (too) easy when plugged into a solver which manages candidates and offers filters and other things. However, there are an almost unlimited number of difficult puzzles which will test all your skills even when you're using a computer solver to manage candidates etc. These puzzles would be (almost) impossible to tackle with pen and paper.

Thankyou angusj I presume you are the angus J of the very helpful website on solving sudoku. I have a question regarding some of your explanations on your website, but I will ask it privately.
