Private Eye parody continues

Postby Sue De Coq » Fri Oct 14, 2005 11:06 pm

The UK satirical magazine Private Eye continues to parody the current Sudoku obsession within the nation's newspapers. A couple of issues ago, it featured a list of the top ten bestselling books in Britain - each entry had some mention of Sudoku in its title, e.g. 'Harry Potter and the Half-Finished Sudoku'. In the current issue, a parody of the front cover from The Sun (a downmarket tabloid) features the banner 'Inside Sex Secrets of the Sudoku Slaves p.69'. Moreover, one of the Christmas Cards sold by the mag sports a cartoon of a Sudoku Advent Calendar - which has the dates 1 to 9 opened against the background of a square grid.

Reality imitates art. The banner on the front page of The Times (supposedly upmarket) todays bears the banner (in lurid pink) 'sex & SU DOKU - times2' - with the 'O' modified to look like a female gender symbol. 'times2' is the name of a suplement within the newspaper.

In the article, Wayne Gould reveals that he sells 300 copies of his software each day and is now a dollar millionaire.
