Please help with puzzle!

Postby MirjamC » Sun Nov 07, 2021 10:55 pm

Hello,

I’m new here . And pretty new to advanced sudoku solving which I’m now taking a liking into.

I got to a point that I believe is one step away from launching the domino collapse,

But I’m stuck, I’ve gone through all that I know several times and can’t find a solution.

I don’t want to use any dirty tricks like forcing chains and stuff like that as I consider them to be pseudo solving.

As I am using an app, I could just guess one digit, but again, I am curious to see what I am missing. If anybody sees something in this puzzle that I don’t see , please tell me!

Thank you, obrigado, Vielen Dank
Mirjam

I can't see an image of your progress. The best thing to do would be to provide a link. Leren

OK, I can now see your image. You'll probably kick yourself for missing this. Row 8 Column 1 contains the only 3 in Row 8, so it's 3. I'll say it for you - ouch ! :D

It doesn't display for me either, but if you click the Quote link on the post with the image, then you'll see the URL for the image:

The method I used (using Chrome) was to right click on the image icon, chose "Open Image in New Tab", and voila, it appears in the new tab. Just left clicking on the image icon does nothing. In any case here is your solved cell status.

Code: Select all
*-----------*
|19.|38.|6.2|
|.23|...|18.|
|865|172|943|
|---+---+---|
|9.8|4..|521|
|...|218|739|
|2.1|...|864|
|---+---+---|
|.12|8..|.9.|
|...|.91|2.8|
|.89|52.|.16|
*-----------*
19.38.6.2.23...18.8651729439.84..521...2187392.1...864.128...9.....912.8.8952..16

Lol! Oh my . Silly me!!!! I feel so foolish ☺️

Aint that something….

It took me q couple of minutes longer to solve with an x wing after putting in the 3 but yea it was a smooth sail from there on.

Thank you to all the helping hands

The puzzle status after placing the 3 looks like this.

Code: Select all
*-----------------------------------------*
| 1      9   47  | 3  8   45   | 6  57 2  |
| 47     2   3   | 69 456 4569 | 1  8  57 |
| 8      6   5   | 1  7   2    | 9  4  3  |
|----------------+-------------+----------|
| 9      37  8   | 4  36  367  | 5  2  1  |
| 456    45  46  | 2  1   8    | 7  3  9  |
| 2      37  1   | 79 35  3579 | 8  6  4  |
|----------------+-------------+----------|
| 567-4  1   2   | 8  346 3467 | 34 9  57 |
| 3     *45 *467 | 67 9   1    | 2  57 8  |
| 7-4    8   9   | 5  2   347  | 34 1  6  |
*-----------------------------------------*

There is a claiming pair of 4's in Row 8 Box 7 (cells marked *) that removes 4's from r79c1 as shown. This solves r9c1 to 7 and the puzzle solves with singles from there, so an X Wing can be avoided.

Leren

<Edit> Changed pointing to claiming.

Awesome! Even simpler!

Thanks Leren :)

I see what youre saying. Thanks for the clarification.

EDIT:
Solved!!!
I used that same technique of pointing digits in a column (c2) to eliminate 4’s in that box and then the whole thing
Collapsed. Just shows how much im missing this essential technique…

Thanks again Leren for letting me know . Youve truly made me a better player :-)

In case any of you feel like another, here’s where im stuck this time.
Obviously one step from solving the whole puzzle again.
And this time i hope i havent missed any singles lol

Hi MirjamC,

More claiming candidates.
4 in c2 is restricted to b7 => other 4s in b7 can be eliminated.
Code: Select all
.----------------.-----------.-----------------.
| 2    6    48   | 7  1   3  | 48   5     9    |
| 9    37   37   | 4  5   8  | 6    1     2    |
| 48   1    5    | 6  2   9  | 48   7     3    |
:----------------+-----------+-----------------:
| 134  9    1234 | 5  34  7  | 123  6     8    |
| 7    8    234  | 9  6   1  | 235  234   45   |
| 134  5    6    | 8  34  2  | 7    9     14   |
:----------------+-----------+-----------------:
| 18–4 2    18–4 | 3  7   56 | 9    48    56   |
| 6   *347  9    | 2  8   45 | 135  34    1457 |
| 5   *347  378–4| 1  9   46 | 23   2348  467  |
'----------------'-----------'-----------------'
Then it's just singles.

Here is an article on how to find and use Intersections - both pointing and claiming types.
