Pattern?

Postby quill » Thu Dec 28, 2017 4:38 am

I have recently started trying "very hard" sudokus. I bypassed the following roadblock by guessing, but is there a pattern to recognize?

A 2 56 1 \
B 8 9 3457 \
C 467 46 3467 \ 34

A2 must be a 5.

Code: Select all
A   2   56   1       |
B   8   9    3457    |
C   467 46   3467    | 34

You have a quad 3467 in row C, where the 6 is restricted to box 1. So it must be there and cannot be elsewhere in the box.
Since 6 also cannot be in the rest of row C (or can be eliminated there resp.), you can see it is a type of "locked candidates" (or claiming).

That's a pointing triple of 6's (claiming) in Row 3 Box 1. You can see the claiming technique described here.

Many thanks. It seems that I have homework to do.
