Bat, you lost me again which is not very difficult to do. I can follow the notation OK but can't see where the 1st term has -6r1c3.

Hi Marty, perhaps I can help you out. It makes more sense if you read the chain from right to left. What it amounts to is - 6 r6c3 ....... = 2 r1c3 = > - 6 r1c3 (I've reversed the chain order so it reads from left to right).

Leren, thanks. You know me, one answer leads to more confusion. Looking at your chain above, all I can see is -6r6c3 which means =6r1c3. :?:

Thanks. I realize that I am hopeless when it comes to this type of stuff. I can't see where the 1st and last term work together to come to a conclusion. All I can see is if r1c3 is not 2, then r6c3=6. As to the 1st term , if it's not 2 then it's 69, leaving the possibility of =6.

Don't feel obligated to reply, as there's a limit as to how much I want to pester people. If I don't get it, then life will still go on.

If r1c3<>2 then r6c3=6 through the chain which would kill a 6 in r1c3,

Now that we've settled that, I'll confuse things some more (hopefully not really) by pointing out that what was written

(2=4)r1c13,r2c1 - (4=2)r2c57 - (2=4)r356c8 - (4=6)r6c36 => -6 r1c3; stte

could have been written

(6=4)r12c1 - (4=2)r2c57 - (2=4)r356c8 - (4=6)r6c36 => -6 r1c3; stte .

There was really no need to include r1c3 in the initial term.
