I like that! I have no idea what to even call it. Grouped Kite+ER? If you used the simple strong link on row 4 instead of the ER in box 5, it could be called Grouped 3-String Kite.

Finally the sukaku explaine is useful.

So this one is a 3-Turbot Crane (with 2 grouped strong links) … I love it because of the use of box 3 which is not an ER (I referred to it is EmL c/d)

There are 5 possible strong links which lead to the same elimination. Well done for spotting it

The one to add is the grouped strong link in box 7 (which complements the strong link in c3) that could link the strong links in r34 achieving the same elimination

The way Sukaku explainer displays it: The arrow display actually is a 3 string kite and has the more striking display out the 5 options

Hi tarek,

Good of you to chime in! I thought you might be interested in this one. I don't know if it's intentional or pure luck, but Dan seems to have a knack for producing puzzles that have relevance to on-going or recent discussions!

Indeed. Here's a funny one that uses five box-based strong links (3 x EmR + 2 x EmL; four of them grouped):

Code: Select all
.-------------------.--------------------.------------------.
| 2      6      59* | 1459   7      145  | 8   135*   135*  |
| 3      4      7   | 2      8-5    158  | 69  1569*  1569* |
| 1      59*    8   | 3569   356    56   | 7   4      2     |
:-------------------+--------------------+------------------:
| 459*   1      6   | 7      458*   2    | 3   89     489   |
| 8      579*   59* | 1356*  3456*  156* | 2   1679   1469  |
| 47     3      2   | 168    468    9    | 5   1678   1468  |
:-------------------+--------------------+------------------:
| 56*    58*    3   | 4568   9      4568 | 1   2      7     |
| 5679*  5789*  1   | 568    2      3    | 4   5689   5689  |
| 569*   2      4   | 568    1      7    | 69  35689  35689 |
'-------------------'--------------------'------------------'

(5)B13457\r15c12[r2c5] => -5 r2c5

(5)r2c89 = r1c89 - r1c3 = r3c2 - r78c2 = r789c1 - r4c1 = r5c23 - r5c456 = (5)r4c5 => -5 r2c5

Just for fun, here's also a ridiculous Leviathan (found by Hodoku) that uses almost every candidate of 5 there is:

Code: Select all
.-------------------.--------------------.--------------------.
| 2      6      59* | 1459*  7     145*  | 8   135*    135*   |
| 3      4      7   | 2      8-5   158*  | 69  1569*   1569*  |
| 1      59*    8   | 3569*  356   56*   | 7   4       2      |
:-------------------+--------------------+--------------------:
| 459*   1      6   | 7      458   2     | 3   89      489    |
| 8      579*   59* | 1356*  3456  156*  | 2   1679    1469   |
| 47     3      2   | 168    468   9     | 5   1678    1468   |
:-------------------+--------------------+--------------------:
| 56*    58*    3   | 4568*  9     4568* | 1   2       7      |
| 5679*  5789*  1   | 568*   2     3     | 4   5689*   5689*  |
| 569*   2      4   | 568*   1     7     | 69  35689*  35689* |
'-------------------'--------------------'--------------------'

Another similar solution: Finned Franken swordfish of 5s (r43b7\c125), fin at r3c46, eliminating 5 from r2c5
