...or explicitly:

Alien 5x6-Fish: {59N5 456N6 \ 4c5 256b5 [8r9 8c6]} => -8 r9c6; stte

Similar achievement using the ALS in r1278c4 with the bivalue cell in r9c5 r3c5<>8; stte (This is rated more difficult by Sukaku explainer as the largest cell in the ALS has 3 candidates)

Well spotted! It's perhaps closer to a classic "bent" VWXYZ-Wing:

Code: Select all
.------------------.---------------------.---------------.
| 7      12    13  | *136     26    4    | 5   8    9    |
| 1248   6     5   | *13[8]   9     1238 | 7   23   234  |
| 248    9     34  |  5       2-8   7    | 1   6    234  |
:------------------+---------------------+---------------:
| 2459   3     46  |  46789   1     2568 | 48  25   27   |
| 12459  1247  8   |  479     245   25   | 6   235  1237 |
| 1245   1247  146 |  4678    3     2568 | 48  9    127  |
:------------------+---------------------+---------------:
| 146    148   2   | *146     456   9    | 3   7    58   |
| 136    18    9   | *136     7     1356 | 2   4    58   |
| 34     5     7   |  2      *4[8]  38   | 9   1    6    |
'------------------'---------------------'---------------'

VWXYZ-Wing: (8136)r2178c4 = (48)b8p18 => -8 r3c5; stte

Almost-DDS / Almost-MSNS: (1346[88])r1278c4,r9c5 => -8 r3c5; stte

Alien 5x6-Fish: {1278N4 9N5 \ 136c4 4b8 [8c5 8b2]} => -8 r3c5; stte

(This is rated more difficult by Sukaku explainer as the largest cell in the ALS has 3 candidates)

Shouldn't mine actually be more difficult as its largest cells have four candidates? Or did I misunderstand?

I don't know about you but for me I always find the bigger cell easier to spot within an ALS because it guides you to the other cells of the ALS. I also find it easier to spot ALSs made up of bivalue cells. I'm in a position that the largest (biggest) & smallest (biggest) cells are easier for me to form an ALS around with the middle sized (biggest) cells being more difficult to see within an ALS

Variations on SpAce's solution:
Code: Select all
 +-----------------------+-----------------------+--------------------+
 |  7       12     13    |  136     26    4      |  5    8     9      |
 |  1248    6      5     |  138     9     1238   |  7    23    234    |
 |  248     9      34    |  5       28    7      |  1    6     234    |
 +-----------------------+-----------------------+--------------------+
 |  2459    3      46    |  46789   1    c2568   |  48   25    27     |
 |  12459   1247   8     |  479    b245  b25     |  6    235   1237   |
 |  1245    1247   146   |  4678    3    c2568   |  48   9     127    |
 +-----------------------+-----------------------+--------------------+
 |  146     148    2     |  146     456   9      |  3    7     58     |
 |  136     18     9     |  136     7     1356   |  2    4     58     |
 |  34      5      7     |  2      a48    3-8    |  9    1     6      |
 +-----------------------+-----------------------+--------------------+

(8=4)r9c5 - (4=25)r5c56 - (2|5=68)r46c6 => -8 r9c6; ste

or, as a kraken:
Death blossom, stem (245)r5c5
(2)r5c5 - (2=568)r456c6
(4)r5c5 - (4=8)r9c5
(5)r5c5 - (5=268)r456c6
=> -8 r9c6; ste

Hi tarek,

Well, at least in this case you might be right, if it's any indication which one I spotted more easily! However, there are probably many factors that determine how easy it is to spot a particular ALS, like for example how closely packed the ALS cells are. In yours they are spread pretty far from each other in the column, which makes it harder.

Also, my box-based ALS can be seen as two distinct parts (ALS 25+4 and AALS 68+25), like Cenoman wrote:

Cenoman wrote:(8=4)r9c5 - (4=25)r5c56 - (2|5=68)r46c6 => -8 r9c6; ste

I think that's easier to spot than the full ALS at once, especially with coloring.

Hi everyone

8R3C5-8R46C5=(8-5)R4C4=5R5C4-5R5C2;
8R3C5-1R3C5=1R3C2-1R2C1=(1-4)R9C1=4R5C5-4R5C2;
8R3C5-1R3C5=1R3C2-(1=5)R2C1-(5=7)R4C1-7R5C2=>R5C2=Ø=>-8R3C5stte

Ciao a Tutti
