I've been working on this one off and on for several months. I've started over several times and always end up stuck at the same place. Can someone please give me a clue as to what I am missing?

Yes. It looks like you assigned an incorrect value somewhere and thus ruined the puzzle.

If you post the original puzzle like this

Code: Select all

1-3 5-- 8-1
--- -2- --3
etc.


then we can find the error.

Otherwise, I suggest throwing your work out and starting again on the original puzzle. You might get it yourself with no help.

In any event, please post back the results - we're interested.

Thanks to all who replied. I'm new at this. This puzzle was from our local newspaper so I guess I should post it in the Newspapers and Publications catagory. I'll double check the original puzzle, post it in a proper grid and put in the proper catagory and see what happens. Thanks again for your responses.

no, this is only for un-published puzzles.

dpletcher has now posted the puzzle in the proper section: Pappocom papers { edit: well that's what it was called at the time }

Wow! Never would have guessed. Probably should read all those annoying stickies I ignore on all forums - LOL.

And if someone wants help with particular puzzles that are published and supplied by Pappocom, one should go to "Newspapers and Publications catagory" namely "Pappocom Papers".

One should think "I want help with a particular puzzle. I certainly don't want to post in the 'Help with particular puzzles" place!

Not self-evident. Thanks for the correction. I will be on the lookout to make sure no Pappocom puzzles are posted here. That would be terrible.
