should you fill in all the candidates in all cells before you start eliminating.

It's not really a question of 'should' or 'should not'; it's a preference. However, IMO for most mortals (there being a few who can do some amazing solving without them) it is recommended for all but the simplest puzzles, though it still isn't required for initial solving using methods such as cross-hatching. One more thing: it is categorically not 'cheating' as some people occasionally suggest.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. So far I am really enjoying Sudoku but I have a feeling more questions are to come!
