New Idea

Hi everyone,

My wife is nuts about sudoku having discovered it 4 weeks ago. And I am getting hooked!

But she spends hours with the daily paper on her knee with pencil and rubber trying to work it out, constantly rubbing and crossing out until it is difficult to see what has gone on before. I am trying to come up with a solution to remove the tedious bit, and make it more fun.

The idea is that we make a neat little board with a magnetic and dry wipe surface, and the outline of the chart printed on it. It will be called Magnetic Sudoku Ó .

The board will measure about 30x40 cm and be very light weight. There would be a set of 91 magnets - 9 lots numbered 1 to 9. (Each number will be separately identified with a colour as well). The plan is to use the numbered magnets to place on the board at the given starting positions, then to use the special pen to write in the "possibles". These "possibles" are easily removed as necessary from the dry wipe surface.

As you discover what the correct numbers/positions are you place another magnetic number there until it is complete.

If it goes hopelessly wrong it takes seconds to remove it all, clean the board and start again.!

I already have a prototype which my wife has fallen in love with - but would like to have some feedback from other experts please through this forum. If you want to see the prototype it is on our website at:

Thanks for your help.

Personally I think the idea is good, except, I think a smaller version (slightly larger than A5) would sell better. I would consider buying a smaller version myself, assuming of course the price on your site is wrong!

Your url didn't fully highlight so I'll re-add it.

I like it that size - but then I would!

Great idea.

Luna *Thanks Roz for the URL, couldn't figure out how to do that myself!*

Thanks people - and thanks for redoing the Roz. The reason for that particular size is to make the squares big enough so its easy to write in the "possible" numbers with the dry wipe pen - any smaller and it would be cramped.

Other suggestions have been that a black and white version (board and magnetic numbers) would be less distracting. And secondly a table top version even bigger size!!

Comments please. Oh - and the price is to stop anyone buying it before its launch - but if anyone wants to pay it I will personally handcraft them one immediately!
