Hi all and thank you for taking the time to read this and help me solve the puzzle. Also, sorry for the actual picture of the puzzle, but all my pencilmarks should be clearly readable. This puzzle if from “Classic Collection Sudoku” book by AM Productions.

So I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve written all pencilmarks and eliminated those I could using the techniques I know, but I seem to be stuck. It would be great if you could help me find the next number and let me know how you proceeded to do so.

Thanks again for the help! :)

And PM is shown as below.
Code: Select all
| 1359  13589  589 | 2    6    4   | 389   189   7    |
| 1349  6      89  | 15   7    159 | 2     1489  1348 |

To solve, set 1r9c2 is the easiest way, though you may find a lots of tech. via the following site.

Hi Nic,

your first post and you already thank again ?

The puzzle is hard, and i think, it needs chains. Since you didn't find the kite eliminating 1 in r2c9, i guess too hard for you.

Yes, setting r9c2 to 1, will solve it.
Also eliminating 5 from this cell would suffice (=> 5r9c7).
But to show, that it can be eliminated, is tricky. I would need a net for that.
(5=79)r8c12 - (7|9=38)r7c134 - [(8=5)r12c3 & (3=5)r45c4] - 5r6c36 = r6c2
Tell me, if you want it to be explained.

Two moves (Ignoring the Kites/Skyscrapers/ER's).

Code: Select all
*------------------------------------------------*
| 1359 d13589 589 | 2  6  4   | 389   189   7    |
| 1349  6     89  | 15 7  159 | 2     1489  1348 |
| 1479 c179   2   | 8  3 b19  |a49    5     6    |
|-----------------+-----------+------------------|
| 369   39    1   | 36 4  2   | 78    78    5    |
| 567   2     4   | 56 8  57  | 1     3     9    |
| 8     357   57  | 9  1  357 | 6     24    24   |
|-----------------+-----------+------------------|
| 179   4     789 | 13 5  6   | 3789  12789 1238 |
| 579   579   3   | 4  2  18  | 579   6     18   |
| 2    d158   6   | 7  9  138 |e358-4 148   1348 |
*------------------------------------------------*

(4=9) r3c7 - (9=1) r3c6 - r3c2 = (18-5) r19c3 = (5) r9c7 => - 4 r9c7. Basics gets you to here :

Code: Select all
*-------------------------------------*
| 3    8    5 | 2  6  4    | 9  1 7   |
| 4    6    9 | 15 7  15   | 2  8 3   |
| 17   17   2 | 8  3  9    | 4  5 6   |
|-------------+------------+----------|
| 69   39   1 | 36 4  2    | 8  7 5   |
| 56   2    4 | 56 8  7    | 1  3 9   |
| 8    3-5  7 | 9  1  35   | 6  2 4   |
|-------------+------------+----------|
| 17   4    8 | 13 5  6    | 37 9 2   |
| 9-5 b79+5 3 | 4  2  18   | 57 6 18  |
| 2   c15   6 | 7  9 a38+1 | 35 4 8-1 |
*-------------------------------------*

BUG+2 loop : (1) r9c6 =BUG= (5) r8c2 - (5=1) r9c2 loop => - 5 r6c2, r8c1, - 1 r9c9; stte
