Need help on a puzzle, Please help

Postby Gee » Fri Jul 13, 2007 2:17 am

I have worked this puzzle to a point where I cannot go any further. I have been at it, off and on, for two days. The program that I use to keep track of the candidates has a button that one can click for a "hint" and when I click this button I get a message that says "No hint available". I hope one of you can provide me with some help as to what I have missed. Thank you.

This is the point where I where I am stuck.

Need Help

Postby Gee » Fri Jul 13, 2007 11:28 am

I am new to this forum and fairly new to Sudoku and wasn't sure where to post inquiries.

I did post this puzzle in "Help with puzzles" and you replied that my ALS was not correct. But I didn't get a reply from anyone as to how I might solve this puzzle. Thinking I might have been in the wrong group heading, I posted it here for help. I am still not sure which group a question of this type should be posted.

So hopefully someone can not only help me with this puzzle but also guide me as to which heading to post to in the future.

I am sincerely sorry if I errored in posting the way I did.

No worries. I didn't mean to sound like I was scolding you. By the way, if you check back in the original thread you will find a solution to the puzzle that I added shortly after my original post. The first step is rather complicated so feel free to ask if it doesn't make sense. I didn't put any time into writing a good explanation.

Thanks

I never looked at any posts beyond on the one you where you mentioned that I failed to not take into consideration that ALL the (2's) were not taken into account with my ALS. I now see you solution to the puzzle but it is confusing. I will go over it and try to see the logic you used.

Re'born, I do want to thank you for the time you took to reply to my plea for help. I have become a Sudoku addict and am still trying to add to my repertoire of possible paths that I might pursue to solve future Sudoku's. It is a slow process indeed.....very slow!

Don't study my solution too much, it has a flaw in it. I'll try to post an alternative solution path later.

[Edit: I've added a solution.]

I think it is solved

Postby Gee » Sun Jul 15, 2007 10:33 pm

I think this is how far I got with this puzzle. I found (3) more ALS's that enabled me to solve the puzzle. At least I think these ALS's are correct.
Anyway the puzzle was solved.

Below are the ALS's:

Set A r2c1, r7c1, 1,4,7
Set B r5c2, 1,4

(1) is restricted common for A & B

Conclusion: r5c1 <> 4

Set A r5c2 1,4
Set B r5c8,, r5c9

(1) is restricted common via (1) inconjugate link in row 6

Conclusion: r5c7 <> 2

Set A r5c2 1,4

Set B r5c7,r5c8,r5c9

(1) is restricted common via conjugate link in row 6

Conclusion: r5c1 <> 3

I hope this is correct and not sheer luck.
