Multiple solutions to Wash Post puzzle Sunday 10/2

Postby russwinter » Sat Oct 01, 2005 10:59 pm

It's only Saturday, but the Sunday puzzle gets delivered a day early to those of us with home delivery. It's rated "hard," and I got a multiple number of possible solutions.

In the 5th and 8th rows, I found that positions 2 and 3 can be either:

4 2 6

8 6 2

or

4 6 2

8 2 6

Also 1, 3 & 9 can be placed a couple different ways in rows 1, 3 & 9 (coincidence?) so that either of two other solutions work.

Did anyone else find the same thing?

I realize these puzzles are supposed to be computer-generated so that there's only one solution for each puzzle, but it looks to me like there are 4 solutions to this one.

There's a couple other solutions I got as well. I'm interested to hear what others found....

I'm afraid they're both invalid since I can see more than one 6 in column six in both your solutions. (However, the starting grid you've given does have only one solution.)
