Misprint in today's Washington Post

Postby shacktoms » Sat Jul 16, 2005 9:36 pm

The Sudoku puzzle in today's Washinton Post is misprinted, it is missing the rightmost column. It doesn't look like the kind of printing error that just showed up in my copy, but an error in the way the puzzle was typeset. Does anyone have the rightmost column of the unsolved puzzle?

I can't see what puzzle they have printed (I'm in Hong Kong, at the moment). Can you post the puzzle as they printed it? I will try to identify it and then post the missing column.

Here is the correct puzzle:

Code: Select all
..5|...|8.9
8..|...|3.2
...|3.6|...
-----------
..1|92.|..7
.9.|...|.5.
4..|.63|9..
-----------
...|4.1|...
6.8|...|..1
1.3|...|5..

The puzzle was supplied correctly to the paper.

I am advised by the Washington Post that the staff-member who normally lays out the puzzle page was on leave, and the temporary replacement made an error in cropping the puzzle.

The error was discovered early in the day, and later editions of that day's paper had the correct version of the puzzle.

Naturally, apologies all around, and we all hope it won't happen again.
