Same elimination but different path: Death blossom with stem cell of r8c5, and petals of r9c245 and r2345c5,=> r7c5 <>8; stte
As an ALS chain: (8=456) r9c245 - (4=5) r8c5 - (5=2789) r2345c5

XYZ Wing (568) cells abc with pincer 5 transport A->B->C => -5 r7c8; stte

Leren

Leren,

This transport has me confused. The transport is to a pincer cell and the net effect seems to be a reduction in the number of pincers from three to two. What am I missing?

Perhaps what you are missing is that, because the transport is via a Weak link followed by a Strong link, there are 2 inferences that can be drawn:

1. If Cell A is 5 then cell C is 5, but also

2. If Cell C is not 5 then cell A is not 5.

It's inference 2 that makes this move easiest to explain: if r7c8 = 5 then cell C = 6 and (because of inference 2) cell A = 8 . So cell a (the pivot cell for the (568) XYZ wing) can't be 5, 6 or 8 !

So the effect of the pincer transport is that the number of pincers is "reduced" from 3 to 2. This POV helps you to discover the move but tends to obscure what is really going on.

When I first saw this move described my own reaction was :shock: followed about an hour later by :twisted: .

Hopefully I've provided you with an Ah Haaa moment.

Leren,

Thanks for the explanation. My understanding of an XYZ-Transport was limited to its most basic form. Hopefully I can digest this and add it to my undersized arsenal.

To me, an XY/XYZ/WXYZ/VWXYZ/UVWXYZ-Wing is simply a Kraken Cell with each stream limited to at most one strong inference in a bivalue cell. Typically, the Kraken Cell is called the Vertex cell and the bivalue cells are called Pincer cells.

Code: Select all
 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
 |  2      4      5      |  7      1      6      |  9      8      3      |
 |  7      9      1      |  3      28     28     |  6      4      5      |
 |  6      3      8      |  4      59     59     |  1      2      7      |
 |-----------------------+-----------------------+-----------------------|
 |  5      8      29     |  6      279    4      |  3      79     1      |
 |  3      1      6      |  58     25789  2589   |  2458   579    2489   |
 |  4      7      29     |  1      3      2589   |  258    6      289    |
 |-----------------------+-----------------------+-----------------------|
 |  1     P56     4      |  2     V568    3      |  7      59     89     |
 |  8      2      7      |  9      45     1      |  45     3      6      |
 |  9      56     3      | P58     4568   7      |  2458   1      248    |
 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
 # 49 eliminations remain

An XYZ-Wing exists, but doesn't have any tangible eliminations:

Code: Select all
 (5)r7c5             - (5)r7c46
 (6)r7c5 - (6=5)r7c2 - (5)r7c46
 (8)r7c5 - (8=5)r9c4 - (5)r7c46;  =>  nada/zilch/goose-egg

Leren extended one stream by a second strong inference ... and extended the possible target cells in the process:

Code: Select all
 (5)r7c5                                 - (5)r7c1346789
 (6)r7c5 - (6=5)r7c2                     - (5)r7c1346789
 (8)r7c5 - (8=5)r9c4 - (5)r9c2 = (5)r7c2 - (5)r7c1346789;  =>  r7c8<>5
