Hi
There's a problem if r7c8 is 7.

r7c8=7->r8c7=6
and
r7c8=7->r4c8=5->r46c7<>5->r8c7=5

=> - 7 r7c8; stte

CW: see diagram.
Comments: The chain ends at (s), i.e. after placing red or blue digits in 18 cells. The chain ends as all blues are dead in cell (s), so all reds are true and solve the puzzle.
Several of the placings are not used for this result, and could be pruned from the chain... but that adds to the overall work and can be rejected for that reason. Or else done if a short solution is preferred to a long one.
In hindsight it is easy to do this, but not before knowing how the puzzle would end.

P.S. I am going to post the pruned chain! Here it is:

These Wings generate eliminations without any further consideration.

Code: Select all
L3-Wing:  (X)a = (X-Y)b = (Y-Z)c = (Z)d     "a" and "d" in same unit; a<>Z, d<>X

H1-Wing:  same as L3-Wing
H2-Wing:  (X=Y)a - (Y)b = (Y-Z)c = (Z)d     "a" and "d" in same unit; a<>Z, d<>X
H3-Wing:  (X=Y)a - (Y=Z)b - (Z)c = (Z)d     "a" and "d" in same unit; a<>Z, d<>X

However, there is another pattern that (probably) would have been used in the "olden days" for this puzzle. It occurs when an SL for X exists between cells "a" and "d". (note: the SL is not always present.)

Code: Select all
Discontinuous Loop L3:  (X)a = (X-Y)b = (Y-Z)c = (Z-X)d = (X)a

Discontinuous Loop H1:  same as L3
Discontinuous Loop H2:  (X=Y)a - (Y)b = (Y-Z)c = (Z-X)d = (X)a
Discontinuous Loop H3:  (X=Y)a - (Y=Z)b - (Z)c = (Z-X)d = (X)a

For this puzzle, the discontinuous loop accounts for Leren's elimination and bat999's elimination ... and for -6 r6c8,r7c4.

Code: Select all
 (6=7)r7c8 - (7=5)r4c8 - r46c7 = (5-6)r8c7 = (6)r7c8

Please note, I have now edited my CW solution to show the pruned version as well
