Good one, Marty, but I was hoping you'd show me how to do the BUG+5! :)

I'd love to. Few years ago I solved one with a BUG+6

I tried this one, but ran into a problem on r9. Both killers are 5 and there aren't enough 5s in the row.

Apparently Marty wasn't kidding - the BUG+6 move can be found here. I didn't check it but I assume it is correct.

Leren, I wouldn't have been able to find that if I had tried. I didn't post the six lines of notation to prove it, rather I got lazy and assumed the reader would trust me. But I just now reviewed it and it's correct. A fun puzzle, to be sure.

Marty,
I don't know how your BUG+n chains work, but I did find multiple Kraken (5)r9 stte solutions in the cluster for digit 5. The only tricky chain was for 5r9c4:
Code: Select all
(5-4)r9c4 = r8c4 - r8c9 = r6c9 - (4=9)r4c8 - r3c8 = (9-5)r3c7; stte.
Does this help any?

Steve,

I don't understand what you're asking and don't know how the line of notation fits in with the BUG. As to BUG+n chains, there's nothing to them. With 6 possibilities for the BUG killer I saw 6 simple chains all yielding a common outcome.

Marty,
OK, I can definitely learn something here! What are the five killer digits needed? What common outcome were you shooting for?

The six potential killers are 7r4c5=6r5c1=6r5c5=7r7c1=1r9c1=8r9c9=>r3c8=8

I wasn't looking for a common outcome, just hoping there would be one.. I just strung out each of the six to see where it would lead.

Marty,
Sorry for the confusion...I thought we were working on the five trivalue cells in the current puzzle. :?:
