Hi Marty - sorry no good. In your second term you have r3c3 = 1 and your third term r3c3 <> 1 - clearly a contradiction.

There is an obvious XWing of 3's in r15c12, so if r1c1 <> 3 then r5c2 <> 3.

In general you can overlap ALS cells in an ALS chain but it's not a good idea to overlap cells containing the restricted common digit in successive ALS terms.

Also I don't think you've written the 3rd term correctly anyway (even ignoring the logical error).

It would be better to write (3=8)r1c1-(8=1)r3c3-(1=5689)r3695c3-(9=3)r5c2 or (3=8)r1c1-(8=1)r3c3-(1=9)r3695c3-(9=3)r5c2.

Written in either of these 2 ways it's clearer what you are trying to achieve and easier to pick out the logical error.

I'm afraid I don't see it, Marty. It should be (3=8)r1c1-(8=1)r3c3-(1=5698)r2695c3. Unfortunately, the 9 in the set is in r2c3 and the 8 is in r5c3 where you want the 9 to be.

Still no good. Apart from the fact that it should be written (3=8)r1c1-(8=1)r3c3-(1=679)r3c58 it doesn't prove anything.

In fact, there's no point in starting any ALS chain with your first term because the only unresolved 3's are the XWing in r15c12.
