Searching for a large locally minimal sudoku my program created this sudoku with 30 clues:

Look at this thread, there are minimal puzzles with up to 35 givens. But these puzzles tend to be harder.

The puzzle can be solved by a combination of naked + hidden singles too.

(N stands for Nacked single)

A bit off-topic, but it has to be mentionned (again) that a singles-only puzzle can’t be necessarily solved by nacked singles only.

Yes, we could look at the 34s and 35s that we have.

I have found rather more 34s and a few more 35s some of which might be solved with naked singles.......although inexplicably many of these large minimal puzzles need "chains" or indeed T&E [ whats the difference ?].

The dukuso15 grid hit a wall with over 3800 34s [no 35s found !], revealing many chameleon puzzles - every clue was mutable / each clue had 2 solution grids.

How easy is it to get down to only 4 steps ?

I picked the first [of the suexrat 47s] - this happened to solve with both hidden and naked singles only.

There could well be a 5 stepper or less in the other 4300 [!] 34s.

Presumably this is more likely if they have the minimum suexrat value [47] for a 34 clue puzzle [which 90% of them do].

As you know, even comprehensive rating systems have their pros and cons.
Nevertheless, the "inferior" rating system (used in the low stepper thread) seems to me the most appropriate for singles.
