I thought you might say that but I think a basic XY Wing to be a special case because, despite it's complexity (3 strong links) is higher than Skyscrapers, Kites and Empty Rectangles (2 Strong links), it's a more widely known move.

AFAIK we never get inquiries from people who can't solve a puzzle because they don't know about XY wings but we get plenty from people who don't know about Skyscrapers. I don't think we've ever had a daily puzzle that was solvable with an XY wing. When I used to do newspaper puzzles XY Wings were quite common but I'd never heard of a Skyscraper until I started writing a solver. So I regard a basic XY wing as an honorary basic move.
