How does one read the 2nd term? I can see that the cells are r1c9, r3c79, but I don't know what p379 is.

Marty, I'm using the alternative to row/column notation. bp refers to box and point, where the major boxes are numbered from left to right, top to bottom of the puzzle, and points (cells) within a box are numbered left to right, top to bottom within the box. p379 in box 3 refers to the cells you've identified. Yes, "cell" would be better than "point", but c is already used for column.
