Typo : (5) r8c5 .....

Also it's a bit confusing. It reads better from right to left. If it was me I'd reverse it.

I believe that you meant:

(7=8)r3c35 - (8=5)r3c2,r2c12 - (5=27)r23c5 => -7 r1c4, r7c5; stte

Thanks, Leren. Typo fixed.

It seems to me to read pretty much the same from left to right or right to left. Maybe I'm missing something.

The "b..p.." notation is considerably more confusing to me than the direction the chain is written, especially when the four cells in box 1 are easily split into two ALSs in two different rows.

(5)r8c5 = r2c5 - (5=97)r2c12 - (7=82)r3c23 -(2=76)r3c57 ==> r8c5<>6

Mmm. I've been using the b..p notation for sets confined to a single box, but not to a single row or column. Admittedly, this one could be split, but that's not necessarily a reason why it should be. So far the limited reviews for the notation have been favorable, but now we have an opposing opinion. Anyone else want to weigh in? The purpose of good notation to my way of thinking is to communicate results clearly. If folks find the notation confusing, that would be a good reason for me to drop it.

I like simple and the b..p notation. A single cell can always be located with row column. A set cannot, without confusing commas or other complications.
