I also used the 89 M-Wing, the type 6A, although it's difficult for someone like me to see much difference between 6A and 6B.

Suppose the middle term, (8-9)r4c3=9r4c2 were instead, (8-9)r4c3=9r7c3. Would that be another type, such as 6C or something else?

The difference between the 6A and 6B is that for the 6A the second Strong link is via a row or column whereas for the 6B it's via a box. In both cases the third Strong link is via a box.

The variation you suppose would correspond to a Type 7A and 7B where the third Strong link is via a row or column. For this puzzle you have supposed it's via a column and you could eliminate any 9's in r789c1.
