i have noticed that some puzzles

Postby helenharry » Wed Jan 09, 2019 2:41 am

I'm new to the game, and have noticed that some puzzles have a symmetry in their opening configurations and some don't. I'm guessing this has to do with how they are constructed, to ensure uniqueness or something, but I am guessing. Can someone explain please?

Hi helenharry,

I program & construct puzzles regularly.

The main reason for constructing the opening configuration symmetrically is for aesthetic reasons only.

In most cases this has no relationship with the puzzle's uniqueness, difficulty or solving techniques

There are some puzzles that are constructed specifically to show certain clues to symmetrically pair with other specific clues. This feature can be used to advance the solution with that in mind.
